This is the second time the branch has received this gong, the first coming in 2006.
Members said they are overjoyed by the big achievement for such a small branch.
“We are extremely proud and honoured to have been chosen for this award, ahead of the other 178 country branches,” Lesley Smith told the Guardian.
“This has come about as the result of hard work and dedication from both members and volunteers of this small branch.”
The branch has been particularly busy throughout the year, fundraising via Marion’s Red Cross Tea House and Little Red Shoppe, which are staffed entirely by branch members and volunteers.
All profits from both these enterprises go towards the continuation of the many services provided by Red Cross.
“We’d like to thank the schools which took part in our major fundraiser for the year, the annual Red Cross Calling Appeal, and the Big Cake Bake, as well as our normal endeavours, raffles etc,” Lesley said.
“To the community as a whole, thank you for your continued support throughout the year.”
