Paul O’Neill reports – with the close of the pennants season came the resumption of club championship action at the Den with two games of major singles played. David Johnson had a win over Andy DalSanto and John Cochrane overcame Geoff McKay in a titanic battle. They will now back up in the quarter-finals this Saturday at 1pm - D Johnson v P O'Neill / J Cochrane v T Edwards / G Lamberth v M Hopper.
Also on Sarturday the long awaited semi-final in Mixed Pairs between B Mitchell,C Doolan v J Summers, M Hopper with June displaying all the guile and class she's renowned for on a slick 'little' green to get into the final.
On Sunday N Riddell and G Gallop took on P O'Neill and D Johnson in men's pairs with the latter pair overcoming a slow start to move into a semi-final clash with D Roe and M Hopper this Sunday along with the other semi between G Allen and C Doolan v C Wills and G Lamberth. Both games set down for 1pm.
Finally, a hearty congratulations to the Macksville Grade 6 and Urunga Grade 4 pennants sides for making it to the State finals. All the best in your quest for glory, gentlemen.
Macksville Women
Thelma Scott reports – last Wednesday we had the final of the Fours Championship. What an exciting game, with Barbara McBride, Elwyn Ainsworth, Carol Turner, and Donna Soyka, winning on the last end by one shot from Audrey Tilbrook, Thelma Scott, Judy Walker and Fiona Medley. Congratulations, ladies.
We also had a social consistency game between Kaye Wood, Janet Poletti and Fiona Medley. The trophy winners were Kaye Wood, Fiona Medley and Elwyn Ainsworth.
The ladies would also like to give a great congratulations to the men’s No.6 pennant side who played down at South West Rocks on Saturday against Sawtell, with Macksville winning 62-45. Well done, they now go to State on August 17 to Nelson Bay.
Nambucca Heads Women
Pat Smith reports – results of the first round of the Consistency Singles: Arlene Duffus def Lyn Hartman, Bryny Brownlie won on forfeit from Pat Smith, Elaine Fleming def Janice Cedelland, Manor Smith def Margaret Dwarte and Hermie Franks def Kerrie Dale.
Next round will be played on Thursday July 26.
Nambucca Heads Men
Fred Pope reports – last Wednesday’s Club Selected Triples attracted a field of 32 bowlers. The $15 winners were Jewel Huntriss, Don Lean and Fred Pope. Second place $10 winners were Corrin Nouws and Roger McGuigan. Third prize $5 winners were Dennis Graham, Gary Mitchell Sandy Saunders. Lucky losers’ $5 prize went to B Newman, Hans Oldenhove and Peter Dawe. Lucky bowler was John Hunt. The jackpot of $60 was not won..
Friday’s Nominated Men’s Triples attracted 64 bowlers. The $15 first prize winners were Mike James (professional spectator), Brian Thompson and Mick Ellison. Second place $10 winners were Harry Rauchenberger, Cec Smith and Mino Bettanin. Third place $10 prize winners were Barry Redman, Peter Dawe and Errol Green. The lucky losers’ $10 prize went to Maurie Roberts, Bill Miernik and Syd Campton. The $15 lucky bowler was Joe Franck. The jackpot of $540 was not won.
Scotts Head Men
Gary Bishop reports – on Saturday G Lynes and P Bishop will travel to Stuarts Point to represent the club in the Champion of Club Champion Pairs.
The next Nambucca Valley Over 50s is at Macksville on Monday August 6 - names in by the Friday prior. Rink winners for Wednesday August 18 were D Scrivener, P Bishop and T Henshaw while the consolation prizes went to J Palmer, S Smith and S Moc. On Saturday, the honours went to J Evelyn, G Ward and D Shepherd.
Urunga Women
Brenda Fane reports – the first round of the Minor Singles is underway with Bev Cloake defeating Joy Lambert 25-13, Irene Algar defeated Ros Hancock 25-21 and Ava Power defeated Janette Banks 25-21.
Rink Winners on Tuesday were Lorraine Horton, Margie Baldwin and Lorraine Carlon.
Thursday saw Lorraine Horton, Jo Bathgate and Lorraine Carlon take the lucky rink prize.
Sad to report that our long serving publicity officer, Pat Chapman, is in hospital. She is on the mend but still has a couple of hurdles before we will see her back on the green. We hope that you will soon be out of hospital.

Julee Townsend reports – cracker of a day welcomed a very decent field of golfers for a stableford on Saturday. Chook Brookes enjoyed a win with 39 points. He’s had a good run this year. Colin Cutt reports – on Tuesday, July 10, 121 golfers competed at Nambucca Island Golf Course, including 32 visitors from Kempsey. A Grade winner (0-15): Graeme Dyet (Kempsey) 36, 1st runner-up Stephen Ball 35 c/b, 2nd runner-up Paul Ryan 35. B Grade winner (16-22): Rod Eves 36, 1st runner-up Roy Rudner 35 c/b, 2nd runner-up Trevor Hopkins 35 c/b. C Grade winner (23-45): Geoff Knight 38, 1st runner-up Ian Finn 36, 2nd runner-up John Haddon 34. NTPs: 18th Tony Pye, 5th Frank Stanton, 8th Jeff Morrison, 13th Chris Gorman. On Tuesday, July 10, 55 golfers competed at Bellingen Golf Course. Winner: Stan McCabe 40, 1st runner-up George Graham c/b 39, 2nd runner-up Phil Lynch 39, 3rd runner-up Mike Broadfoot 38 c/b. NTPs: 3rd Kevin Walker, 12th Chris Smith, 15th Jeff Morrison.

Jen Forne reports – perfect weather for the 36 starters in Wednesday’s two person ambrose with Lesley Buxton and Kerry Naylor winning with 70.5 nett. Lillian Coony and Glenys Thompson came a close second with 72 nett and third place was Marilyn McNally and Kay McGoldrick 72.25.
For the first time reporting nearest the pins on the 5th – I have nothing to report! Shotgun start may be to blame? The pizza on the 13th was won by Jennifer Thorne and pro pin on the 18th was won by Anne Antcliff.
Big events coming up in August, CNC Annual Tournament 7th-9th at Kew, and Nambucca Women’s Open Day on the 17th.
