Ben Honeybrook found all to his liking with a round of 38 points playing off a handicap of 10, not so fortunate was Denys Tobin with the same score but beaten on a countback playing off a 12 handicap.
For B grade Joe Street found his legs so to speak after a time out of the game with knee replacement surgery to record a score of 43 points playing off 17. Runner-up was Paul McElhinney (16 handicap) with a round of 39 points.
Taking out C grade was the hot and cold Paul Maxwell (24) who was hot on Thursday with 43 points. Nice to see Roy Simms (30) finish in the vouchers with his round of 41 points.
Ball rundown went to 32 with three to collect being Ken Marriott, Roy Louis and Michael Bennett. Nearest the pins went to David Bird at 3, Joe Street at 5, Ken Marriott at 7 and 13, Peter Farrell took out 8, Peter Bush once again took the 15th with Ben Honeybrook finishing on a high note with the money shot.
Saturday’s round was a 4BBB with 87 starters. Lyall Gregory showed the way and helped his partner no end when he put together a round of 40-odd points to amass 50 with Colin Dunne, in the four ball. Lyall was also a swinger for Terry Coelli with the pair putting in a score of 48.
After a couple of weeks out Dirk Prummel teamed with John Slade to also run up 48 points. The pairing of Andrew Bagust and Paddy Byrne came up with the best of the 46 scores to get the third voucher. Rundown went to 43 only and Allan O’Brien and Dave Rosser, Glen Crow and Phil Frost along with Kerry McCoy and Byran Ussher picked up the last.
Nearest the pins went to Richard Trevena at the 3rd, Trevor Peter took the jackpot lottery ticket at the 5th, Stu Johnston the 7th, Keith Elphick the 8th, Col Wormleaton took out the pizza hole, John Slade the 15th and Allen O’Brien took out the money shot.
River Sunday as the club likes to call it was sponsored by Coral and Geoff McCann with the field feeling the effects of the hot weather. Making the best of conditions was Shane Anderson and Linne Street a score of 63.50 from a handicap of 11.50. Next to greet the judge so to speak was Uri Ylinen and Nicole Purser (11.75) and a score of 64.25. Next in the two person Ambrose was Deidre Byrne and Kel McGoldrick with 65 points, followed by Chris and Garnie O’Brien 66.50.
Many interested members attended an information meeting at the club on Sunday morning, and those who attended found out that the club will have to stand on its own feet as prospects of an amalgamation have diminished at this time.
