The Mid North Coast Lions clubs funded a day out at the Big Banana Water Park and morning tea for thirty children who suffer from diabetes and their families on Saturday, November 3.
The day was hosted by the Macksville Lions club with funding coming from a number of other clubs in the region.
This is the centenary year for Lions International, with diabetes health a Lions International Centennial Service Challenge.
A diagnosis of a child with diabetes impacts not only the child, but also their parents and siblings.
The Kids with Diabetes Fun Day allows kids with diabetes and their parents to meet in a fun-filled environment to network and share their experiences.
The event was attended by the Lions District Governor John Davis and his wife Rosalie from Tamworth who travelled to Coffs Harbour for the day.
The day would not have been a success without the assistance of the Big Banana and the staff from the Diabetes Education Clinic at the Coffs Harbour Health Campus who advertised the day to their clients.
Feedback from the children and their parents was very positive and it is hoped that the Lions will be able to fund similar events in the future.
