In A grade Maxine Townsend showed the men how it was with a round of 38 points playing off a 12 handicap. Picking up the runner-up voucher was Ian Vidler (11 handicap) with a 38-point round.
After competing in the championships in C grade, Steve Doherty (18) found himself in B grade with no worries as he took out the grade on Saturday with a round of 37 points. Rodney Robertson was pipped on the countback. On fire at present in C grade is Scott Burley (22) with a round of 44 points. Don Adams (20), the runner-up, had a creditable 39.
Picking up the pins on 3 and 15 was Eddy Penrose, Steve Doherty at five, now the Jackpot lottery hole donated by Nambucca Newsagents, Dennis Ashton at 7, Michael Lee the 8th, Eddie Van Haefien at13 and Rodney Robertson took out the money shot.
Ball rundown went to 32 with Howard Clark (Chatswood), Jason Belt, Jeff Morrison, and Andrew Johnston the only ones to receive.
Single stableford on Thursday with just the 70 starters was taken out by John (Hoppy) Hopkins (17) 39 points from Paul McElhinney (14) 38 points. In division two Scott Burley (23) started his good form with a round of 40 points. Taking the runners up spot was Andrew Donovan (23) 37 points. Pins for the round went to Matt Burns, Geoff Harris, Drew Glasson, Jason Belt, John Hopkins the pizza hole, David Bird the 15th and Mark Cooney took out the money shot.
Play of the day to John Slade an eagle at the par 5, fourth hole. Ball rundown went to 33 with Wayne Purcell, Michael Lee, Drew Glasson and John Kelly all to pick up a ball.
Sunday was the Pubs and Clubs challenge run by Steve Barnes with The Bullsharks from the Riverside Tavern in Kempsey taking out the trophy with 211 from Coffs CEX team 216, Nambucca Leagues and Sports 238, and the V Wall Tavern 247. Teams take the best score and the two worst scores in an ambrose event to reach a total. A great day’s golf for all.
The Phar Cup was played last week on the Gold Coast with Phil Mander taking the trophy from Greg Smith. The main battle was for last place between Denys Tobin and Paddy Byrne, even at the last tee the astute Tobin out-played his partner to miss out on the dreaded last place.
Voting is open for positions on the board of directors at the Golf Club.
