Some say they are mating and others say it’s two males fighting – potentially over a female.
The footage was taken by Natasha English along North Bank Road, Bellingen.

In response to the video, Lee Anne Hodges posted on the Bellingen Shire Courier-Sun Facebook page: ‘Def males fighting’. Waveney Ayscough agreed: ‘This is two males fighting’.
After watching Natasha English’s video Caitlan Rumbel was prompted to share a video her uncle Adam Carter took at Bonville late last month.

At first she was convinced it was a male and female mating.
“I’m no snake expert but I have spoken to other people who have seen other snakes doing this and we share the same opinion that this is a male and female mating.
“Although after further research now I believe this is actually two combatant males fighting for the female.”
This is also the opinion of a snake expert from Forster, who is convinced this activity is indicative of a pair vying for the attention of a female.
“They don’t intertwine or stand up like that when they are mating, they just lay next to each other with their tails overlapping,” John Smith said.
