On Saturday around 100 residents from Scotts Head and the greater Nambucca rallied together at Whale Table for the national day of action on Adani’s Carmichael Coal Mine.

The event was one of hundreds of protests held across the country against the proposed mega coal mine in the Galilee basin by the Indian magnate.
The Adani Group are facing a growing public backlash in Australia amidst reports released about the company’s poor financial and environmental track record.
Many are opposed to the mine because coal as an energy source is being phased-out world-wide.
A recent Four Corners report highlighted that the Adani group was struggling to keep its mines financially viable in India.
The organiser of the event Susy O’Brien was happy with the turnout from the town to the registered protest which not widely advertised.
“I only decided to go ahead with it on Wednesday, because I thought we can’t just do nothing,” Suzy said.
“At the rally I used a quote from author and environmentalist Tim Winton: ‘Despair is not an option’ because it’s just not.
