Sitting on Scotts Head beach on Sunday afternoon (Sept 24) enjoying the last of a warm Spring day, my girlfriends and I were made aware of a dangerous situation by a woman frantically running up the beach exclaiming that several young children had been caught in a rip and were struggling to get back in.

People of the Scott's Head community that too were enjoying a lazy Sunday arvo came from everywhere—grabbing surfboards, paddle boards, surf patrol boards, racing into the ocean to assist the struggling kids.
Watching these people putting themselves at risk in the treacherous conditions to aid strangers was something that made our hearts soar.
I have not witnessed such unreserved bravery from unplanned volunteers and the pride felt by the onlookers of these heroes was palpable.
Thankfully all children and rescuers made it safely back to beach - embracing each other while we all looked on in bewildered but grateful awe.
Scott's Head, what a beautiful community you are.
Thank you.
