That was in 2010, but the worst was avoided thanks to the Newee Creek Rural Fire Service brigade – and Kim Jury has never forgotten that help when disaster was avoided.
Ever since, Kim – who runs Inspired by the Rainbow hand-crafted cakes – has been wondering how she might help the small and active brigade.
With a niece in the brigade, Kim knew they struggled to fund equipment – and so the light-bulb moment.
The mother of all cup cake sales to raise cash for the brigade.
This will take place from 8am to noon at the Nambucca Plaza markets on Sunday, September 10.
“And all money raised will be going to the brigade – the lot!” Kim said.
Ahead of a challenging fire season, Newee Creek captain Cherylee Denniss and her brothers and sisters in yellow will be there onsite to help with the cup cake sale.
It’s all part of being good neighbours and looking out for one another in the quiet and caring community of Newee Creek.
But things can get a smidge hectic in banjo country, as moments after the photo shoot – Kim and the brigade members declared a cake war, and the icing became a weapon of mass deconstruction.
