The Rural Fire Service, Forestry Corporation and Fire and Rescue NSW have been on scene throughout the afternoon, and firefighters are now putting in back burns.
Gusty westerly winds saw the fire spread quickly, and smoke can be seen from kilometres away.
Nambucca Heads Fire and Rescue captain Rob Couchman told the Guardian they received the call at 12.23pm.
He said containment lines were being established and there was some asset protection plans in place for nearby houses in Palmer St.
Firefighters worked overnight to bring the fire under control. 111 hectares were burnt out.
