The League-taggers, Reserves and Under 18s all secured their spot in the Group 2 Minor Semi Finals after their matches last weekend.
The League-taggers pulled off a nail-biter against Bellingen on Saturday in extra time of their sudden death match.
Those who came to watch at the Sawtell oval called it game the best game of League-tag this season.
The Magpies scored early and led the whole game until the Roosters equalised in the shadow of full-time.
The scoreline hadn’t budged after the first five minutes of golden point extra time so the game was continued until someone put points on the board.
After another 10 minutes of play Roosters coach, captain and player’s player Caryl Jarrett sealed the victory for her team, toe-punting a field goal.
Club President Scott Costick said the game’s field-goal ending and final score of 5-4 felt like a throwback to seventies football.
“Those scorelines were quite frequent in the seventies where the games were more defense-oriented,” Scott said.
Meanwhile the Reserves managed to just keep Woolgoolga at bay 22-20, after a series of costly mistakes by the boys and questionable calls by the referee.
But the Under 18s, plagued by injuries, had the shocker of their season, going down to Sawtell 29-8.
“They just never got into the game and it showed,” Scott said.
The 18s,after having such a great season, get a ‘second bite of the cherry’ tomorrow.
After tomorrow’s matches, the teams will be bussed back to Valla Beach Resort for the club’s annual Sportsperson’s Gala event.
NRL legends David Peachey, Ricky Walford and Steve Carter are coming to town for the event which kicks off at 6pm this Saturday August 19.
The trio will participate in a Q&A about their careers, and Peachey will present an anti-domestic violence message.
There will also be presentations from the day’s first round of finals in South Grafton and a photo slideshow of the season so far.
Tickets are $40 a head and finger foods will be provided.
To book, call Scott Costick on 0403 529 055.
