Fire fighters have been running a cadets course in which the students have had the opportunity to climb over emergency service vehicles, practice using all sorts of fire fighting equipment and complete a First Aid Certificate.
Trainers have voluntarily given their time and equipment each Wednesday afternoon to teach the students the skills needed to become a member of the Rural Fire Service.
Other emergency services personnel from the SES, police, ambulance and the town fire brigade all attended at some stage to demonstrate the equipment used in crisis situations.
The students were particularly interested in the police talk, with a number indicating a desire to pursue a career in the force.
Each week a different student was nominated as captain and it then became their responsibility to effectively run the training for that day.
They were tasked with getting the crew ready, into their uniforms, and present at the venue ready to start.
The extra responsibility and attention needed when dealing with an emergency situation is rubbing off and the students proved a maturity beyond their years in the approach they took to the training.
