GOLFERS love playing in the fine weather and Saturday looked to be just that for a little while at The Island course.
But then the rains came, with eight non starters due to the showers and about 30 pulling out due to the wet.
Those hitting off early received the best of conditions and got around the course with little interruption. Making the most of it in A grade David Bird playing off 12 handicap put together a round of 35 stableford points to come out on top. Graham Weary (12 handicap) was just behind with a round of 34 points.
In B grade Jim Barrie (16) got his game together with a little bit of luck and came in with a score of 36. Visiting from Toukley, Alan Harris (14) put together a round of 33 to be runner-up. Others to escape most of the rain and record good rounds were Col Wormleaton 33, as did Paul Ryan, Roy Louis, Andrew Johnston, and David Orr (Coffs) along with Phil Frost.
