Following is the response from Forestry Corporation regarding its interpretation of ‘single tree selection’:
“NSW Forestry Corporation does not clear fall native forests,” a spokeswoman said.
“When we plan a harvest operation it is important to ensure the forest is healthy and regenerates as quickly as possible.
“That’s why we spend many months planning the work - mapping and setting aside wildlife habitat, identifying and protecting environmental features and applying the science of silviculture to work out how to get the best regeneration of the forest.
“In Buckra Bendinni State Forest, 70 per cent of the area will not be touched for timber harvesting. In the remaining 30 per cent, individual trees will be selected for harvesting and the remainder will be left standing and help provide a wildlife corridor for animals including the koala.”
