Gather, share and give on May 25

Now in its 24th year, Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea is one of Cancer Council’s leading fundraising events and the largest, most successful event of its kind in Australia.

And Nambucca Shire residents are part of that success.

Twenty four organisations and private individuals have already signed up to host events and there will surely be more to come.

Of those events, there are four public events – three in Nambucca Heads and one in Bowraville.

Funds raised help support Cancer Council’s life-saving cancer research, prevention, advocacy and local support services like transport to treatment, accommodation and Cancer Council Information Centres for people facing cancer.

In Northern NSW alone, it is predicted that 2,476 people will be diagnosed with cancer in a single year, with 766 deaths expected.

Sarah Royall is Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea Coordinator at Cancer Council NSW’s Northern NSW Regional office said while the official date is Thursday, May 25, people can register to host their own Biggest Morning Tea any time from now until the end of June.

“Taking part is easy – simply register online as a host, set a date in May or June and start sending out your invites,” Sarah said.

“An event can be anything from a small gathering at home or in your workplace to a community bake off competition in your local area.”
