While the Nambucca Valley has escaped much of the more extreme weather in recent weeks, the impact is being felt in other ways.
For example, larger supermarkets, such as Woolworths, have been unable to source some of the leafy greens and tomatoes in the quantities that consumers are used to.
For local growers such as Tewinga Fresh’s Katie Benson and Jono Elderton, it is a window of opportunity.
“It has been a funny summer – we lost produce because of the extreme heat and then the long wet … but things are bouncing back and we have fresh produce to sell at local markets,” Katie said.
A Woolworths spokeswoman said the flow-on impacts to supply following Cyclone Debbie were still being evaluated.
“But we can confirm that due to extreme weather conditions in Victoria we are currently seeing pressure on supply of lettuce, tomatoes and broccoli in the short term,” she said.
“We continue to work with our local growers and suppliers and monitor the situation closely.”
