This puts the girls in the league of elite players of the region with teams from Port Macquarie to Woolgoolga.
The honour falls to them thanks to the win by the over 35s team, the Valley Vipers, last year.
The Vipers are taking a break this season but the 17s and the opens both won all five games of the first round last week and are looking forward to a repeat performance.
Coach of the opens, Vicki Wassens, said both teams were training hard and practising match plays against each other with the opens training one night per week and the 17s, two.
This carnival is the elite of senior netball for the area.
- Coach Vicki Wassens
“And it is all working towards reaching our peak for the State Championships over the June long weekend.”
She said players were concentrating on court systems and working hard to get them into their play manoeuvres.
“We are also tweaking our combinations to ensure the best transition of the ball through the court.
“We also have a new defender in the opens, which adds some height and I am looking forward to seeing how the new defence combinations will work on the court.
“We played well in the first round and we are looking forward to building on that momentum.”
She said the 17s were also preparing well and were constantly improving on the road to June’s State Championships
The first toss will be at 9.30am on Sunday at the Marion Wood Netball Courts in Willis St, Macksville (behind Woolworths).
