Well, we’ll see, but nevertheless In Transit is sure to delight those who have already laughed their way through his Chook Books Vol 1 and 2 and his memoirs.
This one is all about travel, Noel’s travels, both as a young man and also during his Qantas steward days.
“The title alludes to passing through cities and countries … and the book is about people, both good and bad, whose paths I crossed,” Noel said.
“I actually started this book more than 50 years ago when I kept hand-written journals – there were two of them and I had been thinking for a long time that I should do something with them … that or throw them out!”
Luckily for us, Noel decided on the former, so we can join him on his journeys by air, road, sea and train.
Some of his more daring adventures include hitchhiking in Zimbabwe (Rhodesia at the time) at the time of Robert Mugabe’s rise to power.
“We were completely oblivious it was illegal and shockingly dangerous.”
And then there was that time in Pakistan that led to a skinny-dipping moment in Karachi Harbour.
“You’ll have to get the book to learn how that unfolded – and its aftermath!”
The book will be launched at 2NVR on Friday, April 28 from 6pm by teh station’s President Steve Ryan.
Copies will be on sale.
“And then I am going to return to painting watercolours, something I haven’t done for 40 years,” Noel said
