Their efforts over the last 12 months have raised a remarkable $217,922 worth of equipment donated to local hospitals and more than 100,000 volunteer hours spent with patients, and in support of hospital staff.
Retiring Regional Representative Phillipa Passmore admitted that retiring was the last thing she wanted to do.
“It breaks my heart – I have met so many beautiful people through this role,” Phillipa said.
“The importance of the work of UHA volunteers cannot be underestimated and now more than ever we need generational renewal.”
Coming into the role is Bowraville’s Dee Hunter, who said she was looking forward to contributing in a new way.
“There are 12 representatives from the regions and so many lovely people … I gain more than I put in really and I feel that if my background as an administrator can help, I am glad to do so,” Dee said.
The Zone Day on March 22 was hosted by the Bowraville branch of the UHA at Bowraville Recreation Club and attracted volunteers from Wauchope to Coffs Harbour and west to Dorrigo.
Light entertainment was courtesy of the Bowraville Theatre Players with Helen Kirkpatrick presenting the well-received monologue, the Houdini Factor.
“Our volunteers give remarkable service to our hospitals and patients, for which we are very grateful,” CEO Stewart Dowrick said.
