2017 is starting out to be a stellar year for Shirley Willis and Brenda Fane who have already featured in club carnivals around the district. Last Thursday they fought off a strong challenge from defending champions Janine Brown and Helen Hoffman to take out the major pairs title at the Urunga Bowling Club in a hard fought, low scoring battle.

In spite of dropping five shots on the seventh end, Janine and Helen managed to level the match at 12-all on the 14th end. On the last end they were holding four shots until Brenda put down a magnificent bowl to win the match 16 shots to 13. Congratulations to all players on top quality bowls.
Congratulations also to Kath McPhail, Brenda Fane, Isabel Pettit and Lorraine Carlon on their win at the Maclean Major/Minor Carnival last week.
