The senior lady was found beached on the high-tide mark, and is now the newest resident at Dolphin Marine Magic (DMM) in Coffs Harbour.
She’s under the watchful eye of Curator of Animal Care at DMM Greg Pickering, who said she is slowly but surely on the road to recovery.
“She was fairly weak, and somewhat underweight and dehydrated … she’d lost a bit of body condition,” Greg told the Guardian.
“She had what we call floating syndrome, which is common among turtles. The National Parks guys told us she had been up on the beach for two days and had not gone anywhere, so there was obviously something wrong.
“… but her rehab is going well. She’s eating about a dozen big squid heads a day and big fish, about 1.5 kilos in all.
“Our aim is to build up her body condition as quick as possible to then release her back to the ocean in about a month’s time.”
