The largest Aboriginal cultural event on the Mid North Coast and the only festival of its kind in NSW, the inaugural Saltwater Freshwater Festival was a massive success in its first year at Coffs Harbour in 2010.
There followed four years of touring the region before this celebration of Indigenous culture returned to Coffs Harbour in 2015 … and now, after taking a break in 2016, its back.
The event is the brainchild of the Saltwater Freshwater Arts Alliance (ten local Aboriginal Land Councils from Karuah to Coffs Harbour) and showcases some of the best Aboriginal talent in the country and from this region where the saltwater and freshwater meet.
In addition to Archie Roach, this year’s line-up also includes veteran band The Donovans, indigenous hip-hoppers Tasman Keith and Dizzy Doolan, Canberra-based country star Dale Huddleston & The Riverbank Band, Triple J Unearthed star Nancy Bates, Birpai Dancers, Gumbaynggirr dance group Jumbaal Dreaming and many more.
The festival also features exhibitions and workshops relating to arts and cultural activities undertaken by Saltwater Freshwater Arts Alliance during the year, offering an enriching experience for everyone.
A drug and alcohol free event, the festival is a great place to spend Australia Day in a culturally rich and inclusive environment.
Gates will be open from 9am-5pm, and tickets are Adult $5, Family $15, Children 10-15 & Elders $2; Children under 10 are free.
