US golfer Harold Varner III has taken the lead at the prestigious event at RACV Royal Pines Resort on the Gold Coast.
Varner III has accumulated a score of -17 to lead by one stroke from Australian Andrew Dodt (-16).
Dodt has led the charge for the majority of the championship, which began on Thursday and concludes today.
Fellow Australian golfer Adam Scott has a hold of third place on the leaderboard on -13.
With the top three bunched closely, it has set up a potentially thrilling finish to the tournament.
Australian Ashley Hall sits in fourth place with a score of -12.
Melbourne’s Brett Coletta has also shot into contention with a current score of -11.
Coletta has managed five birdies over the past six holes and sits in equal fifth place alongside John Senden and Darius van Driel.
According to the Australian PGA Championships website, there are more than 150 entries in this year’s event.
The championship has attracted golfers from across Australia and around the world.
