THE MOST important event at The Island Golf Club this past week was the annual general meeting, with more than 70 in attendance.

After a year of playing ‘catch ups’, a new board has been appointed. John O'Neil remains as president with new appointee Dirk Prummel taking on the vice-president’s role. Geoff McCann is treasurer, Kerry McCoy remains as captain, while Sue Seymour, Henny Oldenhove and Geoff Harris make up the new board.
What many thought would be a fiery encounter did not occur and all questions were answered to the satisfaction of the members.
On the golfing scene, two competitions were run on Saturday with visitors from Ocean Shores, Coffs, Forster-Tuncurry, Nelson Bay and Port Macquarie helping to make up a big field.
Main event for the day was the Men’s Foursomes Championship played over 27 holes. Coming out on top were Bruce Berry and Peter Farrell with a score of 114, nett 108. The unlikely pairing of Dave Rosser and Allan O’Brien 127, nett 109, took the runners-up spot with Ken Marriott and Denys (‘Chicken’) Tobin taking out the best nett with 113.5. Col Wormleaton and Steve Frost 115 nett and Ted Beaton and Paul Maxwell 116 nett were in the mix.
In the stableford round Rodney Robertson and Drew Glasson each recorded 34 points to fight out the division 1 voucher with Robbo having the best countback. Terry Coelli found some real form for a change and recorded a score of 38 to get the voucher for division 2, and John Patterson (36 handicap) recorded a round of 36 to be the runner-up.
Ball rundown went to 31 with Peter Ryan, Jim Barrie, and Jeff Morrison the last to receive. Nearest the pins went to Jodi Murdoch, Rob Coneybeare, Geoff Knight (Coffs), Peter Ryan, Louise Knight (Coffs) and Allen O’Brien, with the money shot going to Bruce Berry.
Thursday’s Dolphin Day round of stableford was won by Robert Bond with a score of 43 to be awarded the Dolphin Day shirt and voucher. Winner in Division 1 was Denys Tobin (12) with a score of 40. In second spot was Graham Weary (11) with a score of 39.
Division 2 saw Alvin Rapley (25) beaming after a round of 40 coming back from a lay-off. Kay McGoldrick cleaned up the second spot with a round of 38 points. Ball rundown went to 32 with Geoff Rees, Bruce Berry, John McCollum and Dirk Prummel the only ones on 31 to collect. Pins went to Peter Farrell, Alan Cockburn, Gary Tierney, Graham Weary and Lynne Grose, while Drew Glasson took some compensation with the money shot.
This Saturday will be a monthly medal round and Sunday will be the Christmas round up of Island Sunday with all who play to bring a present to the value of no more than $5.
