IN THE latest round of the Nambucca Valley club cricket competition on Saturday, Star Hotel lost the toss and were sent into bat by Nambucca Hotel on dusty pitch at Thistle Park.

After losing two wickets in the second over and another pair shortly after, Darrell Welsh steadied the ship with 21 and Ethan Davidson was unbeaten on 29 with a good last wicket partnership with Connor Lockyer. That saw them see out the 40 overs, finishing 9/100. Daniel ‘Pud’ Ledger was the best bowler for Nambucca Hotel with 3/1.
In reply, Nambucca Hotel passed the total for the loss of six wickets, with Joseph Newman 29 and Lawson Tinmouth 28 not out the best with the bat. Best bowlers for Star Hotel were Darrell Welsh 3/23 and Darrell Flanders 2/12.
Scotts Head v Macksville Country Club at Scotts Head. Noel Chapman reports – Scotts Head won the toss and batted losing two early wickets before Ryan Gleeson (50) and Thomas Barbour steadied things. Another collapse brought Jason Borthwick and Kirsty Pedrola together for a 70-run partnership. Some good catching and an excellent runout kept the total to a respectable 8 for 171. The wickets were shared equally between Jason Warwick, Chris Humphreys, Hayden Brown, Matt Liebrandt, James Murphy and Roger Ferguson.
In reply, Country Club started slowly and were 3 for 12 in the seventh over. James Murphy (40) joined Matt Liebrandt (43) for a 73-run stand followed by a 75-run partnership between Jason Warwick (58) and Matt. Two Country Club batsmen were called away and a late collapse left them nine short of victory at 8 for 164 with 11 balls remaining. Jason Borthwick was best with the ball taking 4 for 26 after being on a hat-trick.
Taylor’s Arm v Bowraville at Taylor’s Arm Reserve. Andrew Welsh reports – Bowraville won the toss and elected to bat. All out for 99. Gary Smith 20 and Brandon Ballangary 18 the best with the bat while Jimi Allan 5/10 and Jack Ingham 3/30 were the best bowlers for TA. Taylor's Arm got the runs with eight wickets in hand – Andrew Welsh 54 not out, Ben Mulvihill 40 not out. Best bowlers for Bowraville were Eric Brown and Martin Boney who took one wicket each.
This Saturday’s matches: Star Hotel v Scotts Head at Thistle Park Turf, Taylor’s Arm v Nambucca Hotel at Taylor’s Arm Reserve and Bowraville v Macksville Country Club at Bowraville.
Nambucca Valley Cricket Association will run a 7-a-side day on January 7 at Macksville. Team nominations need to be in by December 6 (email secretary.nvca@hotmail.com).
