Sponsored by Active, the Gift invites runners and walkers of all ages and ability to participate in either or both of the fun runs – a 6km event in the morning and a 2km course in the afternoon.
This will be a chance for local fun runners to be a part of the inaugural NRMA Macksville Gift River Fun Run – and as the name suggests it will be a special, scenic course tracing the banks of the Nambucca.
The 6km run will start at 8am and people need to register on the day (entries taken from 7 o’clock). The event will start at the North Macksville boat ramp and include a short circuit out and back to the new bridge before the field heads over the river, and then under the highway bridge, heading east toward Gumma. On the return journey, participants will head to the actual site of the Macksville Gift carnival, and runners and walkers will have the distinction of a finish line through the iconic Gift finishing gates.
The 2km course will start at the Gift grounds at 3.30pm and circle the sports precinct. Entry to either of the fun runs will be by gold coin, with proceeds to benefit Camp Quality.
This riot of action and colour will be interspersed with fireworks
Entertainment at the Gift site will heat up in earnest at the completion of the 2km run, with the World Championship Banana Hurl and Music on the Green by Diane Coombes and Nambucca Valley Performing Arts. Then will follow the Macksville Gift Princesses competition.
The evening schedule includes three local races from around 6.30pm: the Under 18 120 metres, the Under 12 70m and the Open Classic Mile (1600m).
The professional runners finals will follow, including the Macksville Gift – and this riot of action and colour will be interspersed with fireworks.
As well as the inaugural NRMA Macksville Gift River Fun Run, a highlight of the morning schedule will be the street procession from 11.30am which will wind along Wallace St, into Cooper St and through to the Gift grounds.
This year’s Active Macksville Gift will be the 63rd. The Gift is a professional athletics carnival run under the patronage of the NSW Athletics League. It was established in 1953.
