IN 2014, cycling in the Nambucca Valley lost a great advocate and tireless worker in Brian Cockbain. Shortly after Brian’s untimely death, the Macksville Amateur Cycle Club started planning for the best way to remember Brian and his contribution to the community and the ‘Ride Around The River’ was born.

November 27 will be the 3rd annual Brian Cockbain - Ride Around The River cycling ‘sportive’.
Like last year the ride will start at the Macksville Showground and head across the Macksville Bridge before proceeding to Bowraville and beyond before returning to the showground … all around the river!
Over the last two events the ride has grown hugely with nearly 150 riders last year. The Nambucca terrain is a genuine challenge to the cyclist, and its beauty and courteous drivers make it an exciting place to explore on a bicycle. Riders have attended the RATR from as far afield as Sydney, Bribie Island in Queensland, Armidale and many coming down from Coffs to enjoy the Nambucca.
This year the ride includes three distances, 25km, 50km and a challenging 85km ride with South and North Arm roads being used out of Bowraville. The Macksville Amateur Cycle Club would love to see more local riders joining the social ride and take a look at the wonderful place we live from a new perspective.
The Ride Around The River is set to become a secure event on the Valley’s sporting calendar with the announcement from the BCU that they will support the event as the major naming sponsor for the next three years.
Proceeds from the event are used to support cycling in the Nambucca Valley along with contributions to other local sporting clubs and community groups.
