THEY might be noisy but for many the gloss, the shine and the love that radiates from the hot rods in town more than compensates.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Drag Ens Hot Rod Club’s happy association with the Mid North Coast in general and the Nambucca Shire in particular.
Yesterday the Guardian dropped into the Valla Beach Resort to catch up with this unique band of funloving car enthusiasts.
As usual, the vibes were good – not only the music blasting from the local FM radio station and those of the cruising cars, but also all the owners – pleased to be here, enjoying seeing old friends and only too pleased for the chance to chat about their rods.
And not only that, after 40 years, there are three generations of enthusiasts.
As president Andrew McClelland put it; “This is the one event where kids are happy to hang out with their parents – both my daughters come every year”.
As well as the ever popular Show ‘n Shine in the main street of Nambucca Heads on Saturday morning, there is some touring on the menu.
Today (Tuesday) they are playing out at Raleigh Raceway, doing burn outs and lap runs, tomorrow its Coffs Harbour for breakfast then on Friday its billy cart day in Bowraville … plus the special firework display on Friday night at Valla.
