Heading to the home turn, Port Macquarie gelding Gold Torque appeared to have a winning break, but veered off the track to allow Shazza's Bubbles to charge along the rail to victory.
Gold Torque's rider Matt Paget quickly regained control and managed to surge back at Shazza's Bubbles down the straight, but it was all too late with the mare hanging on to take the Cup by almost a length.
Shazza's Bubbles' Cup win gave apprentice jockey Jackson Murphy his first winning ride after being injured in an infamous five-horse fall at Taree almost a year ago, and the victory was a just reward for the young rider's hard work.
Gladstone gelding Art's Got A Gun won the 1000m Geoff King Eastland Lightning Bend Handicap as a short priced favourite to give trainer Peter Ball his second win in this race out of the past three.
Adding to the success of Saturday's Bowraville Cup day was the triumph of the Shannon Fry trained mare Sofin in Sunday's Port Macquarie Cup prelude. Sofin had run two great races in Sydney leading up to Sunday's comfortable win, and hopefully can repeat that effort in the Port Cup and reward Fry for his great job in keeping Sofin racing so well this campaign.
The Bowraville Cup Carnival was run in near perfect conditions with the temperature in the mid-20s. An excellent crowd turned out to celebrate an event which appeals in different ways to all ages and all walks. Many dressed for the occasion, and there were some stunning outfits.
