On October 19 the Water Industry Operators Association of Australia (WIOA) will stage the 2016 Best Tap Water in Australia competition in Marysville, Victoria, the town from which last year’s winning sample was taken.
Nambucca Shire’s Assistant General Manager, Engineering Services, Paul Gallagher said having won the statewide award it was exciting to be invited to compete at the national level.
“We will showcase our tap drinking water to be judged against the other water authorities across Australia who won their respective state competition,” Mr Gallagher said.
“Competing at this level is prestigious and an opportunity to showcase the Valleys’ natural resources and beauty on a national level. It also acknowledges the staff dedication in providing the best product to our community.”
Water samples will be blind taste tested as well as being judged on colour, clarity, and odour.
Nambucca Shire’s sample came from Bowraville and is up against water from Morgan, SA, Barrington, TAS, Myrtleford, VIC and Barcaldine, QLD.
The national competition is held during National Water Week, and the Marysville community have been invited to take part in the judging.
The 2016 winner will get bragging rights for the next 12 months and will then go on to represent Australia at the Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting Competition held in West Virginia, USA.
