However some found the slower pace of the greens very much to their liking. Such was the case last Thursday as Michael Bennett found it all okay to record a score of 42 points playing off a handicap of 12. Also finding that he could all of a sudden get the ball in the hole was Peter Bush with a round of 40 points playing off 15 handicap.
Division 2 was taken out by Col Dunne with a score of 40 points, from a handicap of 33, while Ronny Lapin had 38 points.
Nearest the pins went to Peter Farrell 2, Mick Bennett, Peter Miller, James Lucas, and John Slade went home pockets’ full after taking out the money shot.
The ball rundown went to 33 stableford points, with five players on that mark to profit – Ben Honeybrook, Urpo Ylinen Joe Street, Mark Coney and Peter Doherty.
Saturday saw a vast improvement in the greens after another ‘brush in’ with the sand and a cut, so all was almost back to normal.
Most found the going a lot better with the morning players appearing to relish the better playing surface with good scores recorded. Best of these was Lyall Gregory and Roy Louis, a score of 48 in the 4BBB event. Pairing up together again were the Oldfields, Craig and Brian, and the father and son combination had a round of 45 points. Next in were Ronny Cook and Chris Stone, 44 points, with Rob Cooney and Garry Beggs along with Art Hooykaas and Peter Fredrick's rounds of 43 points.
Pins for the day went to Peter Farrell, Ted Beaton, Maxine Townsend, Neil Duffus and Debra Morgan, while Drew Glasson went out with the money shot. Ball rundown for the round went to 41.
This weekend The Island will host a stableford round and there is cause for confidence that the greens will be back to their usual character.
