This week is National Superhero Week for Muscular Dystrophy, a muscle destroying disorder for which there is no cure with young children being the most vulnerable to its most extreme form.
The children will dress up and donate a gold coin all week showing their support of the event, which aims to promote a positive message for those living with the disorder – that they are still able to realise their full potential and are superheroes for keeping up the fight against the condition.
Giigay Gamambi director Cheryl Macourt said the pre-school had hosted a similar event last year and raised $70.
“When the email arrived asking us to get involved again, I thought: why not!
“The kids love dressing up and maybe our efforts will help make a difference to someone’s life.”
All funds raised from National Superhero Week go towards supporting research at the National Muscular Dystrophy Research Centre at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, as well as supporting Muscular Dystrophy Australia’s programs and services.
