A spokesperson for Roads and Maritime Services said local traffic would move to a new 300 metre stretch of road for up to 12 months to allow highway construction to continue safely without workers and traffic interacting.
The $830 million Warrell Creek to Nambucca Heads highway upgrade is now 48 per cent complete and is expected to be open to traffic next year.
Piling on the Nambucca River Bridge at Macksville has been completed as has the first deck pour.
Girder installation continues at Rosewood Rd, Albert Drive and Cockburns Lane overpasses.
Girder delivery through Macksville from the North Macksville precast facility will continue for the construction of a further nine bridges.
There is a total of 15 bridges on the 20 kilometre stretch.
