The high-scoring game saw the visitors take the 46-32 win at the dreaded Graveyard, and the two points. The Roosters combinations and consistency, as well as four tries by centre Jay Melrose, is what secured the game.
Not wanting to dwell too much past games, choosing only to take away the positives, the Roosters are looking to this weekend’s must-win game against the second placed Grafton Ghosts.
For the side to maintain their outright fourth position, they will have to produce some of their finest football to date.
“It’s a huge game for us,” captain Matt Field told the Guardian. “Grafton are a real hard side to beat and are definitely one of the main contenders to take out the competition.
“We’re going to have to bring our A game against them on Saturday.”
And both the coaching staff, players and club are confident of a strong end to the season.
“Everything’s been positive, but really it’s how we turn up on the day,” Matt said.
“When we play our best footy, we can knock off any side in the comp … it’s just getting us to that level, and I really think we’re ready to play semi finals footy.”
* Unfortunately there was no reserve grade game, however the side are keen to take the field this weekend to further increase their chances at a finals berth.
Both Nambucca and Grafton are on equal points in reserve grade and are sitting fifth on the ladder, so it’s another must win for the side.
* A close two-point win to the under 18s has further cemented their place in the top three.
Coach Jason Sheppard said it was a “good, hard-fought game”.
“Bello always turn up to play football,” he said.
Another win this weekend could bump them up to equal second with the Ghosts.
“If we win, we’ll be equal second with them … and I think the win will show a bit of dominance coming up to the finals.”
The Roosters take on Grafton Ghosts in all three grades at Coronation Park on Saturday with the 18s kicking off at midday.
