With skydiving, tatoo-ing (not permissable at 88) and other adventures already behind her, there seemed little Olive had not done in her long life – until Community Transport Carer, Diane Camm, suggested riding in a fire truck.
“That really took her fancy … so we organised it,” Diane said.
“I’m with RFS and we were able to use the Newee Creek truck – we added plenty of balloons and then headed up the main street in Nambucca Heads.”
For Olive it was unforgettable.
“I laughed so much my face ached,” she told the Guardian.
“Those girls are all so wonderful … it was all so much fun and full of love.
“If this is turning 90, then I highly recommend it.”
Friends describe Olive as a ‘true blue’ local – born in Bowraville in 1926, she was the first celebrant to be appointed in the Valley.
She retired to Riverside Gardens self care about nine years ago.
