The triple score helped the first grade Roosters to their maiden win of the season, knocking down a determined Bellingen side 34-18.
“First win, three tries – I’m pretty stoked,” Cameron told the Guardian.
“I think I was just in the right place at the right time. Speaking to a few supporters, they were happy with the way I played. It’s starting to show that I can be the leader that I’m meant to be now, so hopefully things get better, for not only myself, but everyone in the club.”
And things certainly did get better for the club with wins across all three grades.
“It’s always good to get a win up – it’ll build confidence in the club,” he said. “For us to win convincingly, it was a big effort across the board.
“All the coaches and players sat down and had a chat about attitude and picking up the intensity at training before the weekend – it seemed to work pretty well this week for us.
“Everyone is starting to click now, and both reggies and 18s have shown promise in the last few games, especially with the weekend’s win.
“The boys were hungry to be there … and that showed. We needed to get on the board from this week, the chance for us to perform for the rest of the year is there, we just have to pick it up from now on and hopefully not drop too many games for the rest of the year.”
This weekend will see the Roosters travel to Grafton to take on the Ghosts in what Cameron predicts will be a fiery affair.
“Hopefully we go pretty well, I think this will test us and let us know where we are at the moment,” he said. “Grafton is always hard up there and I think they have a bit to prove, and want a bit of payback after we knocked them out in the finals last year.
“(We’ll) Just see how things go and see where we are at from there.”
Games at Grafton will be played at Frank McGuren Field on Sunday with the under 18s kicking off at midday.
