SEVEN Nambucca Valley athletes proudly represented the area, their schools and the Macksville Falcons Touch Football association at the under 16s NSW Combined High Schools (CHS) Touch Football championships at Glen Willow Sports Stadium in Mudgee.

CHS is an extremely high standard of play and due to the area and size of the North Coast region, it makes it near-impossible for players to train as a unit - unlike their city counterparts whose close proximity makes it easy for players to attend regular sessions.
In the boys team, Zane Doolan had an outstanding weekend. The North Coast boys side won enough of their nine games to finish in third place, and make a semi final against the highly fancied Sydney North.
In a fast and entertaining game of touch, North Coast were unlucky to be narrowly defeated.
Charlie Dent, Taylah Martin, Astrid Smith, Matiese Trisley and Johanna Walshe were members of the girls team who played some solid touch defeating Sydney East, Sydney South West, North West and South Coast and narrowly going down by 1 to Hunter who were eventual runners-up.
As captain of the side Matiese was thrilled with the girls performance.
“I was so proud of the determination displayed by the team as a whole,” she said.
“A fantastic learning experience particularly for the younger players and to finish in fifth place with a young side was exceptional.”
Nicholas Willer also attended the CHS Touch championships as a referee. Nick had a cracking weekend and displayed enough skill and professionalism in the round games to be given a semi-final showdown in the main stadium which was a sight to behold.
To top his weekend off, Nick was selected along with 10 other student referees to officiate at the All School competition to be held in Narrabeen later in the year.
