NUISANCE drizzle kept the punters at bay in the opening hours of the Nambucca River Festival at Macksville today, but as the skies cleared numbers grew steadily across the afternoon.

The crowd favourite was again the community raft race, featuring one team getting wet before the gun, while another outfit unexpectedly went south after reaching the other side of the river.
A big hit was the new River Stage, with the Salvation Army Country Band being first to pump out the tunes to an appreciative crowd.
The festival continues tonight with live music and fireworks and there's also a series of events tomorrow, including a mass community bike ride around the Valley.
