Austyn took season best figures of four for 17 off nine overs in the comfortable win over Dorrigo at the weekend.
The lanky medium pacer is the top wicket-taker in the Coffs comp, and Nambucca Valley are unbeaten after three rounds of the two-day event, and the first of the limited overs segment.
Austyn’s halo has shone so bright he has just been selected in the Coffs Harbour Country Cup side, while he, Jared Baldwin and Josh Bartlett had the honour this week of being net bowlers for the NSW side in the Toyota Futures League.
Nambucca Valley coach Terry Baldwin is understandably ecstatic over the team’s start to the season, and is pressing for another strong effort against Coffs Colts at Leisure Park on Saturday.
Against Dorrigo, Nambucca Valley chased down the total of 147 in 39 overs. Jamie Bekis was again a monster with the blade on his way to 70 unbeaten, while Jimi Allan was also not out, with 19 to his name. Best with the ball along with Austyn were Jimi with three for 27 off six overs and Josh Bartlett with stats to delight the late Sir Richie Benaud – two for 22 off nine.
Breaking News: Macksville’s Jamie Bekis and Jack Ireland were yesterday called into the NSW Futures League team (NSW Second XI) for the game against Tasmania at Coffs Harbour as substitute fielders.
