Paris: Just a day after the Eiffel Tower reopened for tourists and lit up in the colours of the French flag, it closed again for fear of another terrorist attack.
Employees had asked for better security around the tower before they were willing to go back to work, according to media reports.
The famous monument was open on Monday and had been due to reopen early on Tuesday evening – however a bomb scare shortly beforehand caused police to clear the area.
But there was a new show of Paris' defiance against terror on Tuesday, as Charlie Hebdo magazine revealed the cover for this week's issue with the headline, "They have the weapons, but screw them, we've got champagne!"

Meanwhile, French police are seeking a second fugitive who they believe was directly involved in Friday's terror attacks in Paris and is still unaccounted for.
Salah Abdeslam, whose brother was among the attackers, is already the subject of an international manhunt.
Kalashnikov-type weapons were found in a car with Belgian number plates in northern Paris on Tuesday – believed to be rented by Salah Abdeslam and used in the attack.
Salah's brother, Brahmin, died in the attack. Police have searched two apartments rented by the brothers in the week before the attacks.
On Tuesday a third brother, Mohammed Abdeslam, told several media outlets he had not known about his brother's plan.
"My brother ... was probably psychologically ready to commit such an act," he told CNN. "These are not regular people. You can't have the slightest doubt that they have been prepared. They must not leave any trace that might lead to suspicion they might do such things.
"Even if you saw them every day their behaviour was quite normal."
French officials told Associated Press they now believe one more person involved in the attacks is still at large.
French police conducted more than 100 raids on Monday night and Tuesday morning, as they continued their hunt for suspects and a general crackdown on suspected Islamist radicals – using new powers granted under the country's state of emergency. French President Francois Holland is seeking to extend the state of emergency from 12 days to three months. A vote on such a bill is expected to be held this week.
More than 50 people injured in the Paris attacks are still in intensive care, and more than 220 still require treatment – 129 died in the attacks.
