The development squad was picked mid-October and last weekend Max went to Sydney to train with the NSW Waratahs strength and conditioning coach and some of the Gen Blues (Waratahs u20s).
This continues his progress in rugby union following the Mid North Coast trials and points scoring records for the Bowraville Goannas this season, including six tries in one game.
Besides completing Year 12 at Macksville High School, Max has been training intensively for several weeks in the lead up to the trials and is enthusiastic about the opportunity presented.
“I have been training six days a week and am very excited about the NSW Waratahs and the chance to compete against the best young players in the State,” he said.
“I know the standard of competition will be very high but I am just going to give it my best and learn a lot from the experience.”
Max has been selected in the 34-man squad which will be trimmed to 25 following the trials. He has been placed at his preferred position of fullback.
Joining him will be close friend and Port Macquarie Pirate, Ryan Kenny Wilson.
“If I am selected in the squad I will head to Adelaide in February to compete against some of the best teams in the country,” Max said.
The youngster said he would like to thank the coaches and teammates at the Bowraville Goannas rugby club and Macksville High for progressing his development as a rugby player, and special thanks to his mum, nan and pa for their unwavering support and patience.
