Around 11.50, the shark was seen travelling in a southward direction, just behind the breakers.
Swimmers and surfers were cleared by Surf Lifesavers, and the beach was closed for a short period.
After a patrol by Nambucca SLSC in IRBs, the beach was re-opened, but a close watch of the area was implemented.
For those on Facebook, the shark sighting was noted by the page ‘Shark Reports’.
One wag commented: “Play it safe everyone, go to the Grand Final at ANZ stadium, there haven’t been any Sharks sightings there for years”.
The same Facebook page reported a shark sighting and beach closure at Grassy Head beach on Friday.
