FROM the point of view of the TOAST Urunga organising committee, 2015 has seen them dealing with a considerable increase in Local and State Government requirements to run the event – all of which cost money to comply with.

Long-time team member, Jan Baker, said that without listing the myriad of requirements, interestingly the Local Government DA approved in 2010 had 15 numbered conditions, but the recently approved DA in 2015 had 32 numbered conditions.
She said these 32 conditions were in addition to the 33 requisites relating to the running of the event submitted with the DA request, together with 25 separate documents. All required for an annual 6-hour event. The Trade Fair Licence approved by OLGR this year also had many more additional requirements to be met and was only approved three working days before the event was held.
The committee said that holding an event attracting over 8000 people required appropriate management and control but with the current level of requirements needed by Government (and with the high likelihood that these will only increase rather than decrease), the Toast Urunga Committee and Urunga-Mylestom Chamber of Commerce cannot continue to underwrite the increasing cost of running the event nor the huge risk of being found to not comply with one of the many conditions imposed on the event.
So, with deep regret the committee has announced that, at this stage Toast Urunga cannot proceed in its current format and the Chamber will be looking at other options to host a community event on Fathers Day.
The Urunga-Mylestom Chamber of Commerce would like to express its deep appreciation to all the wonderfully generous sponsors of the event that have donated either their services or made cash donations to pay the bills.
And Toast Urunga says thank you to everyone for all your support, appreciation, advice, hard work and friendship.
