Heading into the round with an abundance of points, the Talarm youngster had all but secured the titles in the 85cc and 65cc boys class, in the under 12s and 10-12s age groups respectively.
As the gates dropped on the final race, Reid said he knew he was in a good place to seal the deal.
“I was pretty confident and was hoping to go well this year – because I couldn’t compete last year due to injury,” Reid told the Guardian.
“I’ve never won this before – it felt pretty exciting being there and racing in all the rounds.”
Reid kick-started his bid for the State title with solid results at Cessnock, which then continued in the subsequent rounds at Orange, Port Macquarie and Nowra.
Over the five rounds in both the 85cc and 65cc boys class, Reid finished first every time, except for one second placing in the 65cc class.
With those results, Reid topped the table and finished on the podium first overall in both classes.
As a result of his success, Reid will travel to Sydney for a Night of Champions dinner event.
The Motocross Championships gives a richly talented group of young motorcycle racers from across the State, and even some from interstate, the chance to show off their skills and progress through the junior ranks.
“Reid was a shoe-in for the events,” Reid’s dad Cain told the Guardian. “He was the only one to get two titles.
“In one of his first races his bike broke down and he was 35 points behind in ninth position – then he came back to first … he was really great.”
The purple patch of form has been a continuation of Reid’s top run of success over the past year, stamping his name on a number of competitions.
“Next are the Aussie titles in Western Australia – I’d like to go, but I know it’s a bit far … if I don’t make it, I’ll train for next year,” Reid said.
