In fact, if you like the idea of a little light exercise while doing something for your community - you'll be welcomed with open arms.
The campaign is The Salvation Army's annual Red Shield Appeal and local Captain Steven Dorman hopes to have as many as 50 collectors door-knocking homes in the built-up residential areas of the Valley.
Across the local Salvos zone - which stretches from Stuarts Point in the south to Valla in the north - they hope to raise $15,000 over the weekend.
The money will be used to fund the raft of services and programs offered by The Salvation Army, with everything from refuges and rehabilitation centres through to alleviating homelessness, counselling and "just helping people make ends meet," Capt Dorman said.
While there have been static collection points in Macksville and Nambucca Heads over the past week, the Red Shield Appeal will go on the front foot this weekend in reaching out to residents.
People willing to collect are needed: and The Salvos would love to hear from anyone who can spare two to three hours either on the Saturday or Sunday.
"We'll give you something to eat when you are finished, a certificate and we quite often have Maccas vouchers too," Capt Dorman said.
If you can help or would like to find out more, call the Family Store at Macksville on 6568-2353 or go to the Entertainment Centre at Nambucca Heads at 8.30am on Saturday or the Salvation Army Church (Nambucca St entrance) at Macksville at 8.30am on Sunday.
Residents will be able to identify bona fide Red Shield Appeal collectors who will carry an identification tag attached to a Salvation Army neck band. They will also have a Red Shield Appeal plastic collection bag.
"Help us to give hope to your fellow Australians," said Capt Dorman, who together with his wife Petra, took a posting with The Salvation Army at Macksville two years ago after serving in Sydney and before that, Wagga Wagga.
Capt Dorman said locally, The Salvation Army was providing basic support services to help people get by, while he believed homelessness was a trending issue and that anecdotally, he had heard that abuse of the drug ice was becoming an issue in Nambucca Heads.
While the Red Shield Appeal will operate in Nambucca Heads on Saturday and Macksville the day after, Capt Dorman said donations would continue to come in throughout June, and he urged anyone who could contribute, to do so.
If the collectors miss you, you can donate by going into the Family Store at Macksville, or by going online at salvos.org.au and following the links or by calling 137-258.
