The exhibition, Through My Eyes, is an appropriate title for the contemporary or surreal style that Lorraine likes to use to express her ideas.
“When I stand at my easel with a blank canvas I often do not know what I will paint,” she said.
“I begin by placing colours on the canvas or drawing with strokes of a brush.
“The form and colours grow unbidden as if a creative force has an urgent need to express itself.
“I paint quickly, responding to what I feel within and what I see growing before me."
Lorraine prefers painting with acrylic for its vivid colours and quick drying.
She believes acrylic enables spontaneity in her work, an unrestrained freedom of expression, the ability to quickly complete a canvas almost without forethought, without anticipating the final result.
Lorraine’s paintings on display are indicative of her work and are a selection of her impressions of a scene or an event, or simply an expression of her enjoyment of life, of living in this marvellous country.
A morning tea will be held on Wednesday at 10.30 in the gallery in Ridge St to launch Lorraine’s exhibition.
