Based on a Russian folk tale, this eclectic play is put on by a variety of people from all schools and backgrounds and is suited for an audience of all ages.
The Firebird is directed by well known story teller and drama director, Michael Vlasto from Dorrigo, and boasts a wonderful assortment of live music, exciting costumes, indigenous cultural dances, humour scenes and ponders some of life’s morals.
The plotline sees an old grandmother who cares for many children, send her oldest son, Ivan, to work for the rich farmer next door. The farmer has a magic apple tree.
But a firebird has been stealing the farmer’s precious fruit from the enchanted tree.
Ivan succeeds in capturing one feather from the bird, however the farmer wants the whole bird caught. Ivan is sent on a quest to find it. On this journey he is helped by Grey Wolf.
This old Russian story is told through a folk tale and represents the trials of normal life and questions how one should lead it.
