A new structure to the line-up saw the ball move well through the midfield of Romy Hewson, Mango Jones and Brody Moran.
But Dorrigo were first to put points on the board.
Macksville’s Paul Coulter showed his usual finesse with the ball at his feet and put a penalty away late in the first half to level going into the break.
The second half saw spirited play from Alec Gage, Harry Mitchell and newly signed Adam Ross. Macksville dominated possession for most of the half and should have capitalised on numerous occasions.
It was up to Coulter again, who managed to get another past the keeper to finish the game 2-1 in Macksville’s favour.
n On Saturday at the North Macksville Playing Fields, the action will start with the 12s at 10.30am, and the 13s at 11.30am. The men’s third division will get underway at 1pm and the newly formed women’s second division side will run on at 3pm.
