The 18-year-old, currently studying for his HSC, has been successful in securing a place in both the North Coast rugby league and rugby union representative sides.
“I’m feeling pretty proud of my achievements being the only one from Nambucca High to be selected for the league team, and only one of two to be selected for the union team,” Connor told the Guardian.
“I was quite surprised to make either team because although my footy has picked up, it’s still not where I want it to be and I still have improvements to make.”
Connor, who is also the boys’ school captain, said it will be a juggling act to manage his study and sport commitments.
“It’s hard working footy around both school and work, but my teachers are really supportive and so far, so good, at balancing it all,” he said.
“Training is really important in the lead up to these trials, especially working on match fitness.
“As part of the league side we play Hunter in Coffs to trial for a Northern Regions team, which then goes on to trial for State.
“For union, we travel to Wagga Wagga to trial for a State team.”
The youngster was selected as a front rower for both sides and is looking forward to his first representative hitout in about five years.
