In a ceremony that will bring together the community including Scotts Head Primary School, the Macksville RSL, surf club members and Nippers and businesses, the memorial will be unveiled at 11am on Sunday, April 19, at the surf club at Scotts Head. This is an open invitation event to the wider community.
Club president Jason O’Donnell said: “Our motto of ‘Saving Lives, Creating Great Australians and Building Better Communities’ is what we are all about and the members who served our nation epitomised these values.
“We are very proud of our members, and this service acknowledges the members who have served, and to make the community aware of the club's history.
“We’ve been working with older members of the club and the community who have advised us on some of the names that needed to be included, as well as going through available records.”
There will be a presentation by Barry McDonald, president of the Macksville RSL, followed by the unveiling of the plaque, and morning tea.
Family and friends of the people commemorated are especially encouraged to attend to honour all those who served, some of whom died in battle or as a result of their wounds.
The Macksville Scotts Head Surf Life Saving Club is a community organisation which provides an important service patrolling Forster Beach at Scotts Head as well as supporting wider community activities and events.
